Good for puppies AND older dogs!
We failed to really fully leash train our oldest shepherd (age 5 now) so when we got the puppy, we knew we wanted to prevent the same issues. The puppy (5 months old) took about 2 walks to get the hang of the gentle leader and now, a week into daily walks, our 5 year old child can walk her easily without pulling…
What I didn’t expect though was how well it worked on an older dog with bad walk habits. Our 90lb GSD did Olympic worthy flips the first time we put this on. It was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. He freaked out and continued to paw at it or try to roll off and on through the first 3-4 walks. He’s gotten better about it since, but still keeps a little tension on the line at all times. Not quite loose leash walking yet, but it’s definitely progress. Walks with our kids and dogs went from stressful and nonexistent to something we all look forward to each evening. We even tried this on our pitbull just to see how it would go and it was phenomenal. She doesn’t need it as much as the sheps and she’s used to a muzzle to walk (reactive/aggressive to certain other dogs) so she adjusted to it in minutes but it was still worthy of noting that it worked well with her too. 3 dogs, 3 breeds, 3 temperaments, 3 different walking habits and this worked great for all of them with me, my husband, and kids on each dog.
