Best Large Macaw Bird Cages: Five Options Compared
The Prevue Empire is the strongest match among these options for buyers seeking a very large cage, while the Mcage wrought-iron models offer play areas and feeding features. The Yaheetech cage is smaller and has one-inch bar spacing, so check carefully before considering it for a macaw. The BAGHPBM cage is designed for small to medium birds, not large macaws. Compare the dimensions and features below, then confirm that any cage suits your individual bird’s size and behavior.

Prevue Empire X-Large Bird Cage
Best for: Buyers looking for the largest listed footprint and a substantial cage for a large bird. The Empire measures 46 inches long by 36 inches wide by 78 1/4 inches high, making it the largest option here by stated dimensions.
Included equipment comprises three stainless-steel, non-tip bowls and one hardwood perch. The listing also describes flathead hex bolts intended to resist being unscrewed by birds. Those details may be useful for owners who want feeding bowls and a perch included rather than sourcing them separately.
Consideration: The provided features do not state bar spacing, door dimensions, or whether the cage includes a play top. Confirm those specifications and make sure the assembled cage will fit through the intended doorway and in its planned location.
Mcage Double Ladders Open Play Top Cage
Best for: Owners who want an open play top, a hanging toy hook, and a defined interior size. Overall dimensions are 39.5 by 30.5 by 67 inches, including the stand, seed guards, and play top; the interior is 32 by 23 by 50 inches.
This wrought-iron cage has a non-toxic powder-coated finish, a 10-by-34-inch swing-out front door with a metal safety lock, four stainless-steel cups, and a wooden interior perch. Its 3/4-inch bar spacing is a specific measurement buyers can compare against their bird’s needs.
Consideration: The listed bar spacing and interior dimensions deserve close review before choosing it for a large macaw. Choose this model only if the spacing, usable space, and access points are appropriate for the individual bird.
Mcage Dome-Top Wrought-Iron Cage
Best for: Buyers prioritizing cleaning and feeding accessories. Listed features include a removable grate and tray, a metal seed guard, solid metal feeder doors, and a solid metal nest door. The cage comes with six stainless-steel feeding cups and two perches.
The 5/8-inch bar spacing is specified, and the listing describes a roomy play-top style. This combination of included equipment and removable cleaning components makes the model worth comparing for owners who want a ready-to-equip setup.
Consideration: The supplied product details do not give the cage’s overall or interior dimensions. Do not assume it is large enough for a macaw based on the product name alone; verify measurements and door access before buying.
Yaheetech 63-Inch Open Play Top Cage
Best for: Buyers considering a mobile cage with an elevated play space for a medium or large bird. The overall dimensions are 32 by 30.5 by 63 inches, including the open top, stand, and seed guard. The cage itself is listed as 24 by 22 by 40.5 inches.
The arched top opens to form an outside perch, and the listing describes a lockable top door, locks on the doors and feeder doors, and 360-degree wheels. These features are useful for owners seeking interaction space and mobility.
Consideration: The stated bar spacing is one inch, and the listing names medium-sized birds among its examples. Despite mentioning macaws in its product name, its dimensions and spacing should be carefully checked for a particular macaw before purchase.
BAGHPBM 39-Inch Double-Layer Cage
Best for: Buyers with small to medium birds who need a divider to create two compartments or one larger enclosure. The cage measures 18.5 by 18.5 by 39 inches and includes a removable divider, an open top, and a transparent front panel.
A slide-out tray and removable bottom mesh are included for cleaning, while a surrounding structure is designed to contain scattered food and waste. The product description names birds such as parakeets, conures, cockatiels, lovebirds, and budgies.
Consideration: This is not a suitable size recommendation for a large macaw. Its stated dimensions and intended small-to-medium-bird use make it a poor match for shoppers specifically seeking a large macaw cage.
Buying Guide: How to Choose a Large Macaw Cage
What dimensions should you compare?
Compare interior dimensions, not just the full height that may include a stand, seed guards, or play top. A cage’s usable width, depth, and height affect how much room the bird has inside. Measure the intended location and access route as well, including doorways needed to bring the cage into the home.
How important is bar spacing?
Bar spacing is a safety consideration and should match the bird. The listed options range from 5/8 inch to one inch, while the Prevue listing does not provide spacing. Check the manufacturer’s specifications for your bird rather than assuming that a cage marketed for macaws is appropriate.
Which features make daily care easier?
Removable trays and grates can simplify cleaning. Stainless-steel cups, feeder doors, locks, and seed guards may also affect daily use. A play top can provide an outside interaction area, but it does not replace adequate interior space or supervised activity.
Should you prioritize wheels or a larger footprint?
Wheels can help reposition a cage, while a larger footprint may provide more room inside. Consider both the assembled cage’s dimensions and where it will stand. Verify that the cage can be moved safely through the home, and confirm whether its listed measurements include accessories.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which listed cage is largest by stated dimensions?
The Prevue Empire is largest by the dimensions provided: 46 inches long, 36 inches wide, and 78 1/4 inches high.
Which options include a play top?
The Mcage Double Ladders and Yaheetech cages explicitly describe play-top designs. The other listings should be checked for configuration details before purchase.
Is the BAGHPBM cage suitable for a large macaw?
No. Its 18.5-by-18.5-by-39-inch dimensions and stated small-to-medium-bird use do not make it a suitable large-macaw recommendation.
What should I verify before buying?
Confirm interior dimensions, bar spacing, door size, included accessories, and the cage’s assembled footprint. Match these details to your bird and intended setup.
